A poker run is a unique boating event that combines navigation, friendly competition, and social celebration. Unlike traditional racing it's not only about speed, it's about enjoying the journey, collecting playing cards at scenic checkpoints, and building the best poker hand
How It Works:
Poker runs have become beloved traditions in boating communities worldwide, offering a perfect blend of adventure, strategy, and social connection
After years without a poker run on the South Coast, the UK Powerboating Club launched the inaugural Solent Powerboat Poker Run on 25th August 2025. Our vision was simple: create an unforgettable day on one of Britain's most iconic stretches of water while supporting Local Charities
Our Debut Event
The event was a resounding success, showcasing the spirit, skill, and camaraderie of our powerboating community
Whether you're an experienced powerboater or new to the sport, the Solent Poker Run welcomes all skill levels. Our focus is on safe navigation, community spirit, and creating lasting memories on the water
Registration opens early each year with limited spaces available
All powered boat owners; RIBs, small cruisers, and medium yachts are welcome! Regardless of experience, anyone with a seaworthy vessel, appropriate insurance, and the required safety equipment can join.
At each checkpoint, crews draw a playing card. At the final stop, everyone reveals their hand and the best standard poker hand wins a cash prize, no skill or boating speed required, just luck and participation!
No. The poker run is a luck-based social event; the best poker hand wins, not the fastest boat! The focus is on enjoyment, charity fundraising, and connection, not racing.
All net proceeds from the event’s gaming fees and donations support the RNLI, the UK’s leading maritime lifesaving charity, helping save lives at sea and providing vital safety education.
