Solent Poker Run

What is a Poker Run?

A poker run is a unique boating event that combines navigation, friendly competition, and social celebration. Unlike traditional racing it's not only about speed, it's about enjoying the journey, collecting playing cards at scenic checkpoints, and building the best poker hand

How It Works:

  • Participants travel a designated route, visiting multiple checkpoints along the way
  • At each checkpoint, boaters collect one playing card
  • After completing the course, the best poker hand wins prizes
  • The emphasis is on fun, camaraderie, and exploring beautiful waterways

Poker runs have become beloved traditions in boating communities worldwide, offering a perfect blend of adventure, strategy, and social connection

The Solent Poker Run Story

Bringing the Tradition Back to the Solent

After years without a poker run on the South Coast, the UK Powerboating Club launched the inaugural Solent Powerboat Poker Run on 25th August 2025. Our vision was simple: create an unforgettable day on one of Britain's most iconic stretches of water while supporting Local Charities

Who can participate in the Solent Powerboat Poker Run?

All powered boat owners; RIBs, small cruisers, and medium yachts are welcome! Regardless of experience, anyone with a seaworthy vessel, appropriate insurance, and the required safety equipment can join.

How does the poker game work during the event?

At each checkpoint, crews draw a playing card. At the final stop, everyone reveals their hand and the best standard poker hand wins a cash prize, no skill or boating speed required, just luck and participation!

Do I need to be a fast or experienced boater to win?

No. The poker run is a luck-based social event; the best poker hand wins, not the fastest boat! The focus is on enjoyment, charity fundraising, and connection, not racing.

Who benefits from the event’s charity fundraising?

All net proceeds from the event’s gaming fees and donations support the RNLI, the UK’s leading maritime lifesaving charity, helping save lives at sea and providing vital safety education.
